What a Wedding Planner Actually Does (It’s More Than Timelines and To-Do Lists)
It’s a fair question. On the surface, it might look like I’m just building timelines, answering emails, and making sure vendors show up on time. But the truth is, a good planner does a lot more than that.
Here’s a look behind the scenes at what really goes into planning and managing a wedding day. The things you don’t always see, but absolutely feel.
Turning Vision Into Reality
Most couples start with an idea, Pinterest board, color palette, etc. My job is to translate that into something tangible. That means understanding your style, your priorities, and your personality. And here’s where I’m honest: part of my job is giving you realistic, transparent advice about how to make your vision actually work in the real world. I’ll tell you what’s achievable within your budget, what’s worth the investment, and where to pivot to make the biggest impact.
My goal isn’t to change your ideas. It’s to help you bring them to life in a way that makes sense for your space, timeline, and your guests. You get the creative freedom and the professional direction to make it all come together.
We Protect Your Time (and Sanity)
There are hundreds of details in every wedding. My job is to manage that complexity so you don’t have to. I track deadlines, manage logistics, communicate with vendors, and solve issues before they reach your inbox. By the time you walk down the altar, you don’t even realize how many moving parts were quietly handled while you were getting your finishing touches on your hair and makeup.
We Keep Everything on the Same Page
A wedding involves multiple teams; catering, photography, florals, rentals, entertainment, and more. Without a central point of contact, things can easily get misaligned. I’m that point of contact. From confirming delivery times to coordinating vendor load-in, I make sure every person involved knows exactly where they need to be and when.
We’re Your Decision-Making Partner
Even the most organized couples hit decision fatigue: the “is this linen the right shade of cream” or “should we move cocktail hour inside because a thunderstorm is coming our way” moments. That’s where I come in! I help you weigh pros and cons, prioritize what matters, and give direction when needed. My goal isn’t to make decisions for you, but to help you make them with clarity.
Wedding Day
By the time your wedding day arrives, everything has been mapped, timed, and delegated. You get to show up, get ready, and get freakin’ married!
I manage the setup, cue the ceremony, coordinate vendors, troubleshoot issues, grab you drinks and snacks, and keep everything running behind the scenes. After you’ve signed your marriage license, enjoyed cocktail hour and dinner, and danced your hearts out on the dance floor - I am cleaning up the decor and making sure all of your personal items are ready to go for you at your grand exit. When I say you just show up, get ready, and get freakin’ married - I mean it.
All To Say
A wedding planner doesn’t just show up with a clipboard (although, my collection of clipboards grow more and more every season), we help build the experience that allows your wedding to unfold. We bring structure, clarity, calm, and confidence. Because when everything is handled, you get to do the thing that really matters most which is to show up and getting freakin’ married!
